All pregnancies confirmed by sonography.
Natural Cycle IVF Program Highlights 2007 to 2009:
- 86% of our patients who started our NCIVF program went to egg collection.
- 88% of these patients successfully had an egg retrieved. This indicates that the vast majority of our patients not only made it to an egg collection, but also had successful egg retrieval.
- Thus, less than 15% of our patients underwent artificial insemination (IUI) rather than the intended egg retrieval.
- 56% of the patients who had an egg obtained had a successful embryo transfer.
- Overall, 35.3% achieved a clinical pregnancy per embryo transfer (in all patients less than 40 years old).
Cumulatively, with more embryo transfers, the total pregnancy rate is even higher. In fact, our very first patient to deliver from our NC-IVF program, delivered again in 2009 from a repeat NC-IVF treatment.

Based upon our experience with NCIVF, and information reported in the medical literature, we anticipate that patients undergoing 2 to 3 NCIVF procedures would have a cumulative success rate for pregnancy that equals or exceeds treatment with stimulated IVF.
Dominion Fertility is proud to have produced the first Natural Cycle IVF pregnancies in the Washington, D.C area in 2007. The very first patient who successfully became pregnant using NCIVF has now delivered again following another NCIVF procedure in 2009. In its first year of existence, the program's pregnancy rate was 23%. Throughout the past years, we have learned much about Natural Cycle IVF, and this experience has allowed us to significantly raise our pregnancy rate to 35% per embryo transfer.
Dominion Fertility firmly believes that in the upcoming years Natural Cycle IVF will be practiced with increasing frequency at clinics across the country. The CDC, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and other respected medical organizations have shown great interest in our work, and we look forward to a future of continued success with this technique.
Problems with NCIVF
- Cycle Cancellation- Occurs in about 10% of patients because of premature ovulation or LH surging (a sudden change in hormones) that would require us not to proceed with egg retrieval. If such an event occurs, we will perform an intrauterine insemination (IUI) if at least one fallopian tube is open.
- Failure to retrieve the egg- Occurs in less than 10% of patients.
- Failure to fertilize the egg- Occurs in less than 10% of patients. All eggs will be fertilized using ICSI unless a special circumstance exists.
- Overall, we would expect about half of our patients starting a treatment cycle to complete the treatment cycle and undergo an embryo transfer. Over the course of two to three treatments, we expect over 50% to achieve pregnancy.
