Natural Cycle IVF uses no drugs.
This is its major difference from conventional IVF and why Natural Cycle IVF is easier, less stressful, and much less expensive. Conventional IVF is necessary for many patients because it utilizes drugs to obtain multiple eggs and embryos for better pregnancy rates.
With Natural Cycle IVF, the woman's body naturally selects the best egg to be released. When mature, usually around the tenth day of the menstrual cycle, the egg is retrieved in a simple, in-office procedure requiring minimal sedation. It is then fertilized with sperm using modern in vitro laboratory techniques.
Three days later a single embryo is replaced in the uterus in another simple, in-office procedure. Two weeks after that we test for pregnancy.
The entire process is based upon the menstrual cycle and takes 30 days. There is no hospitalization, no drugs, and almost no chance of multiple pregnancies- all of which minimize stress. The cost is about 25% of conventional IVF.

Dominion Fertility Remains Enthusiastic About Natural Cycle IVF
July 20, 2009
Although many of our patients have only recently heard of Natural Cycle IVF (NCIVF), it is not a new technique. In fact, the very first IVF pregnancy in the world was achieved through Natural Cycle in 1978. Low pregnancy rates resulted in the addition of medications, but 30 years later, technology has advanced and specialists like ours have fine-tuned their technique. This has allowed us to successfully revisit a treatment that is the basis for all IVF treatments today.
Dominion Fertility has been offering Natural Cycle IVF since January 2007. Since then, we have achieved impressive results, and have been encouraged by the positive feedback from patients who have chosen this treatment option. 2009 was very successful with 1 in 2 patients achieving a clinical pregnancy per embryo transfer and 1 in 4 per egg retrieval. Most pregnancies occurred within the first three embryo transfer cycles.
